Officer to woman during traffic stop: 'We only kill black people

A Cobb County police lieutenant has been moved to administrative duty for making what the department deemed were “inappropriate racial comments” during a traffic stop last year.

Channel 2 Action News reported that its request for body camera footage of the incident prompted an internal investigation of Lt. Greg Abbott.

The footage shows a white female driver pulled over during a DUI traffic stop telling Abbott that she was scared to move her hands in order to get her cellphone because “I’ve just seen way too many videos of cops ... ”

At that point, she is cut off by Abbott.

“But you’re not black. Remember, we only shoot black people,” the police veteran of nearly three decades can be heard saying. “Yeah. We only kill black people, right? All the videos you’ve seen, have you seen the black people get killed?”
The footage is from July 2016, before Mike Register took over as chief of Cobb police.

He said that Abbott will remain on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation, for which he didn’t give a timeline.

A statement Wednesday from the department said Register just found out about the recording Friday.

No matter what context it was said, it shouldn’t have been said,” Register told Channel 2.

This was also before a study by the International Association of Chiefs of Police ordered the department to address public perceptions of racism and discriminatory policing.

Suri Chadha Jimenez, who is representing the driver in the case, said he thinks the officer was being sarcastic after the woman “gave him some lip.”

“It makes you cringe when you hear it. It’s unacceptable,” Jimenez said.
Lance LoRusso, Abbott’s attorney, gave the station this statement:

“Lt. Greg Abbott is a highly respected 28-year veteran of the Cobb County Police Department. He is cooperating with the department's internal investigation and will continue to do so. His comments must be observed in their totality to understand their context.

He was attempting to de-escalate a situation involving an uncooperative passenger. In context, his comments were clearly aimed at attempting to gain compliance by using the passenger’s own statements and reasoning to avoid making an arrest.”

In the police statement, Cobb County commission chairman Mike Boyce is quoted as saying: “I have seen the video and obviously have great concerns. I find the comments on the video repugnant and offensive beyond measure.”

This comes a day after the department released information about an officer-involved shooting that injured a 16-year-old’s upper thigh. The shooting was deemed justifiable by a grand jury.

“We are going to keep going forward to make sure we, as a police department, service the community in a most professional way. All segments of the community,” Register said.

A fire or explosion in the next few days at a flooded chemical plant on the outskirts of Houston is virtually inevitable, its CEO warned on a call with reporters Wednesday.

The Arkema Inc. factory in Crosby, Texas, 20 miles northeast of downtown Houston, lost power early Sunday, which it needs to refrigerate volatile chemicals. Those chemicals ignite if they get too warm ― something likely to happen in the next six days, Arkema North America CEO Richard Rowe said. "

NRA TV host: President Obama “set race relations back 100 years in this country”…

http://www.salon.com/2017/08/30/nratv-host-president-obama-set-race-relations-back-100-years-in-this-country_partner/
Bill Whittle has a long history of promoting academic racism — and hits Barack Obama

Bill Whittle, a host for the National Rifle Association’s news outlet NRATV, claimed that the country’s first black president “set race relations back 100 years” with his administration, effectively comparing today’s America to a time when state-sanctioned segregation was permitted and lynchings were commonplace.

Whittle is the host of NRATV’s newest program, “Bill Whittle’s Hot Mic”, a show that supposedly focuses on “left-wing pop culture’s war on our freedom and rights,” but which routinely veers off topic to discuss race, with African-Americans bearing the brunt of the criticism. On his program, Whittle has repeatedly slammed Black Lives Matter for focusing on police brutality instead of “black-on-black homicide,” has claimed “90 percent or more of the racial problems that we have in this country are manufactured by the left,” and has accused both cities run by Democrats and mainstream news organizations of being racist.

Whittle has also made racially insensitive comments as a regular guest on NRATV’s news program “Stinchfield”. He previously called CNN’s Don Lemon a “miserable racist” against white people for noting that President Donald Trump sounds different when using a teleprompter, and he has claimed the country doesn’t need the Democratic Party because there is no “genuine black oppression as there was in the past.”

During the August 28 edition of Bill Whittle’s Hot Mic, Whittle claimed the goal of the Democratic Party over the last two decades has been “to take America, . . . divide it up into little tribes, and set the tribes at war against each other.” He went on to claim that the Obama presidency “set race relations back 100 years in this country”:

Bill Whittle (Host): Ladies, I want to talk to you about something real quick here. I had a friend who was talking about this today on camera. He said he watched a little clip of “All In The Family” last night and it was an episode where Lionel Jefferson had a girlfriend whose parents were mixed race or something. And he said you simply couldn’t air that show today, that episode of “All In The Family”, because it was so open, it was so honest about the discussion of these things. And it’s pretty clear to me that the entire job of the left over the last 20 years has been to take America, which is essentially unbeatable if it’s one country, divide it up into little tribes, and set the tribes at war against each other. And it seems to me that Barack Obama’s presidency set race relations back 100 years in this country.

Whittle also has a long history of promoting academic racism, including endorsing discredited theories that posit black people are intellectually inferior to other races, while appearing as a regular guest on “alt-right” commentator Stefan Molyneux’s YouTube channel. During interviews with Molyneux, Whittle described African-Americans who support the Democratic Party as literal slaves who prefer to remain in captivity because they can trade a willingness to commit voter fraud for welfare benefits. During one 2016 appearance, Whittle called inner city residents “unemployed and unemployable” and said that they should get jobs because a job “beats the laziness” out of people and “disciplines” them into “civility.” He also called then-President Barack Obama an “unqualified, unknown individual” who was elected “specifically and only because he is black” during a January 2016 appearance and said that by electing Obama, “we’re atoning for our slavery.”

https://www.mediaite.com/online/nra-tv-host-accuses-obama-of-setting-race-relations-back-100-years/
Whittle’s comments should come as no surprise to viewers, as another NRA TV host recently suggested the Black Lives Matter movement is attempting to have white Americans “tortured and killed.” Besides the wild comments of their TV hosts, the NRA’s racial politics came under fire when there was an outcry for them to speak out about the killing of the legally armed Philando Castile.

These Volunteers Give Handjobs to the Severely Disabled

The Taiwanese NGO Hand Angel aims to raise awareness of the fact that disabled people are often depicted as completely desexualized, though they have exactly the same desires as everyone else.

Andy is a muscular dystrophy patient who lives with his parents in southern Taiwan. Due to his severe physical disability, he was home-schooled and couldn't leave his house alone, so never really had the opportunity to develop either an active social life or a romantic relationship.

When the Taiwanese NGO Hand Angel—an organization promoting the sexual rights of disabled people—first spoke to Andy, they realized this situation meant he'd also never been able to have a frank conversation with anyone about his sexuality. And as a young gay man who didn't want to speak to his parents about his feelings, this wasn't exactly the healthiest situation to be in.

So, over the course of a few months, representatives from the NGO counseled Andy online, helping him to understand his own sexuality and place in the world. Next, they "smuggled" him out of his house and took him to a motel for a handjob.

Taiwan—officially known as the Republic of China—has one of the best health systems in the world; its million or so disabled citizens receive some of the most thorough medical attention you'll find, including everything from long-term care to traditional herbal medicine. What they don't receive from this system, however, is any kind of aid when it comes to slightly more intimate issues, namely: orgasms.

It was for this reason that a group of social campaigners and volunteers took it upon themselves to create Hand Angel, an NGO whose main service is giving handjobs to the severely disabled.

Members say that their work raises awareness of the fact that disabled people are often depicted as desexualized—as well as having their sexuality constantly neglected—despite the fact they share exactly the same desires as anybody else.

In the Netherlands, the national health system provides a grant scheme for people with disabilities to receive public money to pay for sexual services up to 12 times a year. In Taiwan, sex remains a taboo, and some Buddhists—the sovereign state's primary religion—believe that someone suffering from a disability means they're paying for bad deeds in a past life. So not the best mix for those like Andy, really.

"I can't tell my parents that I also have sexual desires, and I can't come out of the closet in front them," he told me. "My family's care puts lots of pressure [on me] and sabotages me from normal romantic relations."

Vincent, the 50-year-old founder of Hand Angel, lost his legs to polio and says his disability allows him to better empathize with applicants' needs, without any of the patronization disabled people can sometimes face. He emphasized that "disabled people share the same physical and emotional needs as any others, and therefore should have the right to pursue them."

In order to decide who's entitled to use their services, Hand Angel first assess an applicant's level of disability. The person has to be recognized by the government as having a serious physical impairment, but can't be mentally disabled. Once they're cleared, the service is totally free, but each applicant can only receive three bouts of sexual stimulation.

Volunteers—the group of 10 people actually giving the handjobs—come from varied backgrounds; some are gay, some are straight, some are disabled, some are PhD students, some are social campaigners and some work in the media. It's made very clear to me that these volunteers only use their hands for second-base kind of stuff—that hugging, caressing, and kissing on the face are all fine, but anything penetrative (fingering, oral sex, vaginal sex, and anal sex) is not

When Hand Angel took Andy to the motel, the volunteer caressed him thoroughly and gave him a handjob. He described the intimacy being so intense that, for a minute, he believed he was in love. He knew it was only temporary, of course, but the experience provided him with an emotional connection he'd never felt before.

This is part of Hand Angel's mission: not just providing a sexual service, but also bringing forth an emotional and social transformation in applicants.

"[Andy] was very introverted before, and didn't really know how to interact with people," said Vincent. "However, through months of talking online, I discovered something changed inside him. When our group was reported by the media and got lots of criticism, I saw Andy joined the public debate and argued with those [critical] internet users, trying to illustrate his opinions."

In Taiwan, where a discussion of sexuality is restrained by strict moral codes, there was also plenty of mockery leveled at Hand Angel. Internet users starting posting comments like: "Do they also offer 'Mouth Angels?'"; "I'm retarded; can I apply for Hand Angel service, too?"; and "Only three times in a lifetime?"

There even appeared to be negativity on an official level. The executive secretary of the Taipei United Social Wealth Alliance, Yi-Ting Hu, commented on the NGO, saying: "Speaking from personal opinion, I don't think we need to bring up disabled people's sexuality as an independent issue. There are more important and urgent problems we need to deal with. Don't you think if you advocate their sexual rights, it is like another form of discrimination?"

Of course, he seemed to only be proving Hand Angels' point; to suggest that advocating a disabled person's sexual rights is a form of discrimination is, first, patronizing in itself, and secondly, just completely bizarre—how is consensually receiving a handjob in any way discriminatory?

Andy summed it up: "I didn't feel I was the target of pity. The whole process was full of respect and equality. This might be deemed as controversial by society, but as long as you're willing to look into it, what we desire is no different from others. Just ask yourself: do you need to consult your parents before having sex?"

Job searching is one of my least favorite things to do in life. I'm educated, no criminal record, have a good resume, diverse skill set, and a good work ethic but for some reason I've always had a difficult time finding jobs. My job searches always take longer than they should an I always end up becoming very frustrated. What are some ideas to land a job that I want in a reasonable amount of time without becoming angry, frustrated, pissed off and tired?

Trump's presidency vs the Tubman $20

Its ironic, cuz i was thinking about this on my own earlier this morning, then i twitter searched "tubman trump" to see if there were like minded individuals. There happened to be an article written on this topic yesterday

Harriet Tubman, the sword-wielding, gun-toting spy and freedom fighter who led dozens of slaves to freedom in the north after escaping from slavery herself is set to become the first black woman to be featured on American currency—specifically, the $20 bill.

According to a new report from TIME, however, the impending inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump and the administrative changes that will come along with it have some within the Department of the Treasury concerned about the future of the new legal tender.

Back in April, long before he became the Republican frontrunner for this year’s election, Trump expressed his apprehension for the Treasury’s plans to remove Andrew Jackson, a man made wildly wealthy thanks to his ownership of some 300 slaves, from the $20 bill in favor of Tubman as mere “political correctness.”

“Well, Andrew Jackson had a great history, and I think it’s very rough when you take somebody off the bill,” Trump said. “I think Harriet Tubman is fantastic, but I would love to leave Andrew Jackson or see if we can maybe come up with another denomination.”

Trump went on to run with a suggestion from then political rival and now cabinet appointee Ben Carson that the Treasury bring the $2 bill out of retirement and feature Tubman’s likeness there instead.

Screen Shot 2016-12-07 at 9.54.03 AM
One of the many ideas artists on social media have had for a $20 bill featuring Tubman.

Now, officials within the Department of Treasury are suggesting that current Treasury Secretary Jack Lew is considering releasing the finalized artwork for the new $20 bill with Tubman in an effort to sway incoming Treasury Secretary (and former Goldman Sachs partner) Steven Mnuchin to continue the process set in motion earlier this year.

The problem with that tactic, an official who asked to remain anonymous explained to TIME, is that releasing the artwork for the bill this early could give counterfeiters the opportunity to begin producing fake bills before all of the new bills’ security measures have been finalized and put into production.

“People will take what you put out there and think that that’s final and that’s not necessarily the case,” the official said. “We’re not far enough along in Ihe process where we can unveil or release any type of design element at this point in time.”

Sheriff RoboCoon resigns

David Clarke, the controversial sheriff of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, and a favorite of President Donald Trump, abruptly resigned on Thursday.

Clarke gave no reason for his resignation in a one-paragraph letter to the county clerk that was obtained by NBC News.

In May, Clarke said he had been offered a top spot at Homeland Security — a statement that the department declined to confirm after an inquest recommended criminal charges against seven county jail staffers in the dehydration death of an inmate who went without water for seven days.

In June, DHS said Clarke wasn't a candidate. Clarke said in response that he'd withdrawn his name from consideration.

Mark Belling, a conservative Milwaukee radio host, reported that Clarke told him that he wouldn't be taking another government position. Belling offered no other details
