Will Trump allow release of final JFK assassination documents?

(CNN) More than 50 years after President John F. Kennedy was slain in full view of the world, the final government documents about his death are set for release.

That is, unless President Donald Trump, citing national security, certifies that some unreleased or redacted files be kept from public view.

The documents are among the last of still-secret papers the government amassed on the assassination. Some grand jury and tax documents will remain secret.

The JFK Records Act passed in 1992, following the release of the Oliver Stone movie "JFK" and a surge in interest about the killing. The law mandated the government release the remaining files to the public and gave it 25 years to do so. October 26, 2017, will mark 25 years since then-President George H.W. Bush signed the measure into law and is the deadline for full release.

But concern has abounded from advocates of total disclosure that the Trump administration might block some of the release at the behest of the intelligence community.

The National Archives said government agencies had deemed files covered by the act prior to its passage too sensitive for release, and the Archives would not characterize them outside of noting many are likely only somewhat related to the investigation.

They run the gamut from FBI to CIA materials and all manner of documents said to pertain to investigations into Kennedy's death.

The Archives said the full collection -- much of which is already publicly available -- spans millions of documents.

Many files have been released about the Kennedy assassination over the years, including some in redacted form. Barring a waiver from the President, the obscured text will be revealed, and the Archives posted a tranche of files in July ahead of the October deadline.

CIA spokesperson Nicole de Haay said, "CIA continues to engage in the process to determine the appropriate next steps with respect to any previously-unreleased CIA information."

The FBI and the White House did not respond to requests for comment on the upcoming deadline.

'It's time to let the people know the truth'

Two Republican lawmakers said they intend to push the administration to release the full archives.

Rep. Walter Jones, R-North Carolina, and Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, have unveiled legislation urging full compliance with the spirit of the 1992 law.

In an interview with CNN, Jones said his next step would be to reach out to political consultant Roger Stone -- an ally of the President and co-author of a book that claims President Lyndon Johnson was at the center of a conspiracy to kill JFK -- to lobby Trump personally on full release. Stone is an outspoken advocate for complete disclosure of the Kennedy files.

"I'm going to play that card," Jones said of reaching out to Stone.

Jones said reading a book by Larry Sabato, a leading researcher into the assassination, sparked his interest in the files and led him to take action. He said he will continue working with his colleagues to drum up public demand for the Kennedy papers. He said there was no justification for the government to withhold some files and called it plain "wrong" to keep information from the public.

"For God's sake, it's time to let the people know the truth," Jones said.

Jones said he was unsure if there would be any major revelation in the remaining files and described the process of studying the assassination as "like a puzzle" where different pieces of information could eventually build a complete story.

Grassley took to Twitter following the two Republicans' announcement on their efforts, saying it was an example of over-classification.

Widespread speculation

The full release of the documents would mark the end of a decades-long struggle for researchers to get a hold of all available information, but will certainly not quell the debate over Kennedy's death.

The US government, via the Warren Commission report, declared Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone and without assistance to kill Kennedy before Jack Ruby murdered him while in custody.

The Warren Commission report did little to put alternate theories to rest.

For his part, Jones said he thought others besides Oswald were involved in the murder but that he could not speak to what degree without access to more information.

"My thinking is that there were other individuals and possibly agencies that were complicit," Jones said.

There has been widespread public speculation and in-depth research about the Kennedy assassination. A Gallup poll in 2013 showed 61% of respondents said more than one person was involved in the shooting and some pointed to the Mafia, the government, the CIA, Cuba and others as playing a role.

Trump himself touted an alternate theory to the Kennedy assassination on the campaign trail last year, when he alleged Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz's father could have been a part of a plot to kill Kennedy. Trump's comments were widely criticized.

The changing reasons why women cheat on their husbands (Article inside)

I know people don't read so I'll highlight some of the reasons why women are admitting to cheating as stated in the article for your viewing pleasure.

they found married life incredibly dull and constraining and resented the fact that as women, they felt they consistently did a disproportionate amount of the invisible labor that went into maintaining their lifestyle.

"I think there's an incredible amount of deep resentment for women in America about divisions of labor," said sociologist Lisa Wade when I asked her to comment on this contradiction. "And what social scientists are finding now is that there is a correlation between equal division of labor and better sex."
* I gather that these women feel like their husbands are not planning sh*t for the family or for her or helping out as much as she would like, so she goes outside of the household to find the "plans" she's missing out on.
We now tell women that they can have it all, that they can work and have a family and deserve to be sexually satisfied. And then when having it all is miserable and overwhelming or they realize marriage isn't all it's cracked it up to be, maybe having affairs is the new plan B."
* Its about time we start telling these women that marriage isn't all its cracked up to be. Only people that want you to get married are your parents and the blood diamond companies. :)
At the time I married, marriage had felt like a panacea; it was a bond that would provide security, love, friendship, stability, and romance -- the chance to have children and nice dishes, to be introduced as someone's wife. It promised to expand my circle of family and improve my credit score, to tether me to something wholesome and give my life meaning.
Could any single relationship not fall short of such expectations?
* Sheesh.

Deficit for 2017 hits $666 billion

By Jeanne Sahadi October 20, 2017: 6:26 PM ET

The federal deficit for fiscal year 2017, which ended last month, hit $666 billion, according to new numbers released Friday by the Treasury Department and White House budget office.
That's $80 billion higher than the year before.
The deficit reached 3.5% of the size of the economy, or GDP. In 2016, the deficit was 3.2% of GDP.

The deficit reflects the gap between how much the government brings in and what it spends.
Accrued deficits over the years contribute to the country's debt held by the public, which in 2017 rose to $14.667 trillion. But as a share of the economy, it actually fell slightly to 76.3%, down from 76.7% in the year-ago period. (Those figures don't include the money owed to government trust funds like Social Security.)

Money in: Tax receipts rose by $48 billion -- or 1.5% -- to $3.315 trillion, although they fell as a share of GDP to 17.3% from 17.7% a year earlier.

As always, individual income taxes made up the biggest piece of the total revenue pie. They rose by $41 billion to $1.587 trillion. Payroll tax receipts were also up. The combined increase "largely reflects increases in wages and salaries," according to the Congressional Budget Office.
Corporate income taxes, meanwhile, fell by $2.5 billion year over year to $297 billion.

Money out: Spending also rose but faster than tax receipts. It went up by $129 billion -- or 3.3% -- to $3.98 trillion. Despite that, it too fell as a share of GDP to 20.7%, down from 20.9%.
Unsurprisingly, given the aging of the population, spending on Social Security and Medicare were up by 2.5% and 1.5% respectively.
Among the biggest changes: Payments for interest on the debt climbed 6.3% to $457 billion. Outlays, meanwhile, for the Environmental Protection Agency, for instance, fell by more than 7% to $8.73 billion.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney attributed the fact that spending growth outpaced revenue growth to "historically subpar" growth in the economy.
Related: Trump's proposals will balance the budget. Except they won't

And they interpreted the budget results as proof of the need for the Trump administration's push to reform the tax code and reduce regulations.
"These numbers should serve as a smoke alarm for Washington, a reminder that we need to grow our economy again and get our fiscal house in order. We can do that through smart spending restraint, tax reform and cutting red tape," Mulvaney said.
At the same time, they are also promoting a tax reform framework that could add trillions in debt if its tax cuts are not offset and don't generate the kind of growth that the most optimistic estimates may suggest.

Do you have a plan for your grandkids if your kids fukk up?

Trump Trying To Get Jemele Hill Fired From ESPN

White House: ESPN’s Jemele Hill should be fired for calling Trump a ‘white supremacist’

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Wednesday struck back at ESPN host Jemele Hill for referring to President Trump as a “white supremacist,” calling the comment “outrageous” and saying she should lose her job.

Asked about Hill's tweets Monday evening, in which the sportscaster also said Trump's rise was “the direct result of white supremacy,” Sanders responded: “That's one of the more outrageous comments that anyone could make and certainly something that I think is a fireable offense by ESPN.”

ESPN scolded Hill, who is African American, in a public statement distancing the network from her remarks, but it has not suspended her from her co-hosting gig on “SportsCenter.” The network, which has been accused by far-right conservatives of being too openly liberal with its politics, called Hill’s tweet “inappropriate” and noted her comments do not “represent the position of ESPN.”

In her tweets, Hill wrote that “Trump is the most ignorant, offensive president of my lifetime.” She said his “rise is a direct result of white supremacy. Period,” and that he is “unqualified and unfit to be president. He is not a leader. And if he were not white, he never would have been elected.”

Sanders said she did not know whether Trump was aware of Hill's comments.

Trump has faced widespread criticism for his handling of the violence at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville that resulted in the death of a counterprotester. The president did not immediately denounce the specific hate groups, including the KKK and neo-Nazis, which had organized the event, and he continued to equivocate even after condemning them, later saying there were “very fine people” on both sides.

Trump met privately at the White House on Thursday with Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), who is African American, about the aftermath of the Charlottesville incident.

Sanders asserted Wednesday that Trump has been clear in his condemnation of hate groups.

Asked why Hill and her supporters don't think so, the press secretary said: “I know that the president has met with people like Senator Scott who are highly respected leaders in the African American community. He's committed to working with them to bring the country together. I think that's where we need to be focused — not on outrageous statements like that one.”

New Sexual Harassment Allegations Against Bill O’Reilly...

The Explosive New Sexual Harassment Allegations Against Bill O’Reilly, Detailed

Roger Ailes is out at Fox News but the troubles for the network might just be getting started.

In a new lawsuit filed in New York State Supreme Court on Monday, former Fox News host Andrea Tantaros alleges she was among a number of women sexually harassed by, yes, former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes.

But she also alleges she was sexually harassed by the network’s biggest star, Bill O’Reilly. The suit alleges that O’Reilly attempted to lure her to Long Island where he told her it would be “very private” and that she could show him her “wild side.”

[C]ommencing in February 2016, Bill O’Reilly (“O’Reilly”), whom Tantaros had considered to be a good friend and a person from whom she sought career guidance, started sexually harassing her by, inter alia, (a) asking her to come to stay with him on Long Island where it would be “very private,” and (b) telling her on more than one occasion that he could “see [her] as a wild girl,” and that he believed that she had a “wild side.” Fox News did take one action: plainly because of O’Reilly’s rumored prior sexual harassment issues and in recognition of Tantaros’s complaints, Brandi informed Cane that Tantaros would no longer be appearing on O’Reilly’s Fox News show, The O’Reilly Factor.

This isn’t the first time O’Reilly has been accused of sexual harassment. In 2004, he was sued by Fox producer Andrea Mackris who alleged he “repeatedly subjected her to sexual harassment through dinner and phone conversations variously described as lewd, lascivious, vile and threatening.” The allegations included O’Reilly trying to lure Mackris to his hotel room.

The lawsuit alleges that Tantaros was ultimately removed from the air in retaliation for her complaints to Shine and others. Fox News later offered to continue to pay her through the length of her contract if she provided general legal releases to Ailes, O’Reilly, and others. The release would have also prevented her from discussing her time at Fox News in perpetuity.

Trump trying to kill our retirements

$

(Bloomberg) -- Big money managers, already on guard to protect one of their richest sources of assets, are on alert as more details emerge on how prized 401(k) contributions could fall victim to President Donald Trump’s tax overhaul plan.

The New York Times reported Friday that the administration may seek to limit pretax contributions to 401(k) plans to as little as $2,400 annually, down from the current maximum of $18,000 for most workers and $24,000 for those 50 years or older.

The measure, rumored for months as a way to help offset the individual and corporate tax cuts that the Trump administration hopes to enact by year end, would essentially pull future tax revenues forward by requiring Americans to pay taxes on retirement savings now instead of when they tap their nest eggs.

Tech investor admits sexually harassing female entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley

A prominent venture capitalist admitted to sexually harassing women in the tech industry, saying he leveraged his “position of power in exchange for sexual gain” in the latest discrimination and misconduct scandal to rock Silicon Valley.

Justin Caldbeck announced on Friday that he would be taking an indefinite leave of absence from Binary Capital, the firm he co-founded, following the claims of six women who accused the 40-year-old of making unwanted advances, often in the context of potential business deals.

“The power dynamic that exists in venture capital is despicably unfair,” he said in his statement. “The gap of influence between male venture capitalists and female entrepreneurs is frightening and I hate that my behavior played a role in perpetrating a gender-hostile environment.”

The lengthy apology from Caldbeck, who led investments in Grubhub and TaskRabbit, comes at a time of increasing backlash surrounding misogyny and toxic workplaces in tech. A major sexual harassment scandal at Uber contributed to the resignation this week of embattled CEO Travis Kalanick.

The Caldbeck allegations have shone a harsh light on sexism in the male-dominated venture capital sector, where powerful executives can make or break startups and where women who face mistreatment lack formal recourses to raise concerns or file complaints.

Tech news site the Information reported on Thursday that six women had accused Caldbeck of “unwanted and inappropriate advances”, with several saying the misconduct occurred when they sought funding or guidance while trying to start businesses. Two of the women decided to avoid business deals with him as a result of his behavior, the report said.

Three women went public with their claims. Niniane Wang, who co-created Google Desktop, alleged that Caldbeck tried to sleep with her while informally recruiting her for a job. Susan Ho, co-founder of Journy, a travel booking service, said the venture capitalist sent her text messages in the middle of the night suggesting they meet up while they were in the process of discussing investing in her startup. Leiti Hsu, another co-founder of Journy, said Caldbeck groped her under a table at a bar.

Three other anonymous sources shared stories with the Information about sexually explicit text messages and advances from Caldbeck despite their professional relationships. In the original piece, Caldbeck said: “I strongly deny the Information’s attacks on my character. The fact is, I have always enjoyed respectful relationships with female founders, business partners, and investors.”

Binary also initially issued a statement that dismissed the claims as “a few examples which show that Justin has in the past occasionally dated or flirted with women he met in a professional capacity”.

But after the story spread in Silicon Valley, Caldbeck reversed his position and issued a direct apology to the three women named in the article and “to the greater tech ecosystem, a community that I have utterly failed”.

He also said he was “deeply ashamed” of his lack of self-awareness and would seek professional counseling: “The dynamic of this industry makes it hard to speak up, but this is the type of action that leads to progress and change, starting with me.”

Binary did not immediately respond to the Guardian’s request for comment on Friday.

While much of the discussion in Silicon Valley has focused on male executives harassing subordinates, there have been fewer public stories about venture capitalists targeting women seeking funding – a relationship where victims of misconduct aren’t employees and don’t have any traditional avenues to speak up.

Research has repeatedly shown that female entrepreneurs are far less likely to be funded than men and that venture capitalists (VCs) are plagued by biases toward supporting men, which contributes to the extreme lack of diversity across the industry and can more broadly hinder innovation.

Reid Hoffman, the founder of LinkedIn, issued a scathing response to the Caldbeck scandal on Friday, saying that VCs must have the “same moral position to the entrepreneurs they interact with that a manager has to an employee, or a college professor to a student”, adding: “We all need to solve this problem. If you stay silent, if you don’t act, then you allow this problem to perpetuate.”

Caldbeck previously worked at Bain Capital Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners before starting his own firm, which has raised $300m and financed a range of startups, according to the Information.

Binary was profiled in the New York Times when it launched in 2014, with a story noting the firm’s mission to invest in “early stage” companies that “have the potential to have a global impact” and to give a portion of the interest to charitable organizations.

Big Baller Brand Didn’t Sell Nearly As Many Lonzo Ball Shoes As Initially Reported

https://www.google.com/amp/uproxx.com/dimemag/lonzo-ball-shoe-sales-numbers/amp/

Don’t get caught up in the hype that LaVar Ball and Big Baller Brand have racked up millions of dollars in sales of Lonzo Ball’s signature shoe. Even at $495 each.

The sneakerheads at Nice Kicks did some legwork to refute the rumors that Ball’s ZO2 Prime had sold 5,000 pairs in as little as four hours after its initial release. Like most internet rumors, that turned out to be bunk. Matt Halfhill over at Nice Kicks explained in a post how they figured out the number is much, much lower.

Basically, Halfhill ordered a pair a few hours before Chad Johnson ordered a pair and posted his confirmation email on social media. By Halfhill’s count, just 34 total transactions on the entire Big Baller Brand site had occured between those two orders, and that could have been for shirts, hats, and anything else there that isn’t a pair of very expensive shoes.

When another Nice Kicks staffer ordered a pair of shorts the next day, the transaction number simply didn’t account for thousands of shoe orders—there were just 328 individual purchases.

Out of the 328 transactions that happened on BigBallerBrand.com in the first 24 hours that the shoes were offered for sale, we tracked that a total of just 263 pairs of sneakers had sold in both signed and unsigned versions of the ZO2 Prime.

While we have no access to sales receipts, transactions or traffic data, we have been monitoring the inventory levels of the footwear listed on BigBallerBrand.com. After noting the initial product levels at the start and deducting the current units sold, we can confidently say that 210 pairs of unsigned ZO2 Primes had sold (103 pairs in size 8.5 alone), along with 53 autographed ZO2 Primes.
While it’s tough to confirm anything here from a secondary source and incredibly unlikely the Balls are going to talk down rumors of big sales, the logic used by Nice Kicks here makes sense. And then there’s the big sales numbers that don’t match the actual sales thus far.

Not accounting for shipping or sales tax (that doesn’t appear to be properly applied to transactions anyways), the total revenue for footwear in the first 24 hours was $157,685, based on the numbers sold for signed, unsigned, and the larger sizes that are priced at an extra $200.

While $157,685 is an incredible amount of sales in one day, it is far from the $2.5 million that numerous outlets have reported today online.
It’s an interesting look at the reality of the shoe business, an industry the Balls are now going it alone in. Though opting not to sign with a major shoe company is clearly not a decision to take lightly, the Balls seemed forced to do so. Talks with Nike blew up and the pursuit of growing Big Baller Brand as a whole was sidetracked by talk of top tier price points. LaVar Ball wanted to package his three sons into a single billion-dollar shoe contract, and the companies that dominate the industry wanted nothing to do with it.

While the initial release on Thursday created a huge amount of Internet buzz—both good and bad—it didn’t immediately translate into massive sales. Like Stephon Marbury warned, it’s very difficult to grow a brand on your own. It’s easy to LaVar Ball to get people talking about him, his sons and their very expensive shoes, but actually convincing people to buy them takes a lot more than calling them “premium” and walking away.
