Banana fiber sanitary pads can solve big problems in India

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/banana-fiber-sanitary-pads-solve-160000603.html

With its sanitary pads for the Indian market, startup company Saathi solves two problems at once. Just 16 percent of women in India use them due to poverty and other reasons, which causes health and social issues. At the same time, manufacturing them wastes millions of gallons of water, and two million tons of pads end up in landfills every year. To help with all that, Saathi's pads are affordable, made from discarded banana tree fibers, manufactured in a sustainable way and 100 percent biodegradable.

Engadget met with Saathi co-founders Kristin Kagetsu and Tarun Bothra at the Hello Tomorrow conference in Paris. The company not only won €15,000 in the wellbeing cateogry of the Hello Tomorrow Global Startup Challenge, but also the €5,000 Impact prize and grand prize of €100,000 -- a sweep of all categories.

We take sanitary napkin usage for granted in North America and Europe, but it's a huge issue in India and other developing nations. "In India, out of 100, only 16 women use sanitary pads," Bothra told Engadget. "It varies from region to region as to why. In some places it's not affordable and in others there are religious taboos. There is [also] a lack of education, so they stick to the old ways, which is tree bark or just normal cloth which causes UTIs (urinary tract infections) and other hygiene problems."

To handle the economic issue, Saathi sells its pads in rural areas at cost and for profit in urban areas (it's distributed in biodegradable, organic plastic sacks in villages and in boxes in cities). At the same time, it is doing educational outreach. "With the 'One Million Pads' initiative, we're able to distribute pads to rural Jharkhand," Kagetsu said. "We're also doing an impact study to see what the difference is when they have pads, and particularly, biodegradable pads, because in rural areas there's no waste infrastructure to deal with disposal."

The pads have a modern, comfortable design with wings to prevent leakage, and the banana fiber material is 50 percent more absorbent than chemical products used in regular sanitary pads, the creators say. The material is surprisingly soft to the touch and doesn't irritate skin.

"The structure of banana fiber itself is good for absorbing water; it's better than cotton," said Bothra. "We don't use bleach, we don't use sodium acrylate or any other chemical. They're not skin friendly and can cause rashes and UTIs.

Because they contain no plastic or other non-organic materials, the pads biodegrade into compost in just three months, or six months in a landfill. At the same time, they're more environmentally friendly than organic pads created from cotton farming, which consumes millions of gallons of water.

During manufacturing, no bleach or other chemicals are used, and any water consumed is recycled for banana plantation irrigation. "We're using banana tree fiber, agro-waste, because the trees have to be cut down every harvest anyway," said Kagetsu. "Growing organic cotton is very expensive, and it uses six times more water."

It was perhaps this mix of health, social and environmental benefits that inspired judges to award Hello Tomorrow's grand prize to Saathi. The conference is largely about science and technology startups, with keynote speeches from JPL/NASA, Adidas and other large organizations. It's ironic that the startup challenge was swept by a small, regional company that makes a decidedly low-tech product.

NAACP warns African-Americans about flying on American Airlines

http://www.foxnews.com/travel/2017/10/25/naacp-warns-african-americans-about-flying-on-american-airlines.html

The NAACP for several months now has been monitoring a pattern of disturbing incidents reported by African-American passengers, specific to American Airlines,” the civil rights organization said in a statement. “In light of these confrontations, we have today taken the action of issuing national advisory alerting travelers — especially African-Americans — to exercise caution, in that booking and boarding flights on American Airlines could subject them disrespectful, discriminatory or unsafe conditions.”

Among the alleged incidents cited by the NAACP:

-- An African-American man was forced off a flight because he responded to disrespectful and discriminatory comments from two unruly white passengers.

-- An African-American woman was switched from first class to coach, while her white companion remained assigned to a first-class seat.

-- A pilot directed that an African-American woman be removed from a flight for complaining about having her seat changed without her consent.

-- An African-American woman and her infant were removed from a flight when the woman asked that her stroller be retrieved from checked baggage.

“We are aware of these incidents only because the passengers involved knew their rights, knew to speak up and exercised the courage to do so promptly,” the NAACP statement said.

In response, American Airlines issued a statement of its own.

"We are disappointed to hear about this travel advisory as our team members — a diverse community of gate agents, pilots, and flight attendants — are proud to serve customers of all backgrounds," American Airlines spokeswoman Shannon Gilson said. "Every day American is committed to providing a positive, safe travel experience for everyone who flies with us."

The spokeswoman said the company plans to meet with NAACP officials about the incidents that prompted the advisory.

“All travelers must be guaranteed the right to travel without fear of threat, violence or harm,” said Derrick Johnson, president and CEO of the NAACP. “The growing list of incidents suggesting racial bias reflects an unacceptable corporate culture and involves behavior that cannot be dismissed as normal or random.

“We expect an audience with the leadership of American Airlines to air these grievances and to spur corrective action,” he added. “Until these and other concerns are addressed, this national travel advisory will stand.”

So are there men out there that don't mind taking the primary chefing role in a relationship?

I don't see why a woman should automatically be expected to be the main kitchen slave if both parties are working full time jobs. I also don't think it says less about you as a man if you take that role, nor does it say less about you as a woman if you're just not into cooking. That's just me.

In our house we split cooking duties during the week and then I usually do most of the cooking on the weekends, unless we're grilling.

Feel free to post pics of your skills and don't be posting your girl or your mama's cooking either.

The Explosive New Sexual Harassment Allegations Against Bill O’Reilly, Detailed

Roger Ailes is out at Fox News but the troubles for the network might just be getting started.

In a new lawsuit filed in New York State Supreme Court on Monday, former Fox News host Andrea Tantaros alleges she was among a number of women sexually harassed by, yes, former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes.

But she also alleges she was sexually harassed by the network’s biggest star, Bill O’Reilly. The suit alleges that O’Reilly attempted to lure her to Long Island where he told her it would be “very private” and that she could show him her “wild side.”

[C]ommencing in February 2016, Bill O’Reilly (“O’Reilly”), whom Tantaros had considered to be a good friend and a person from whom she sought career guidance, started sexually harassing her by, inter alia, (a) asking her to come to stay with him on Long Island where it would be “very private,” and (b) telling her on more than one occasion that he could “see [her] as a wild girl,” and that he believed that she had a “wild side.” Fox News did take one action: plainly because of O’Reilly’s rumored prior sexual harassment issues and in recognition of Tantaros’s complaints, Brandi informed Cane that Tantaros would no longer be appearing on O’Reilly’s Fox News show, The O’Reilly Factor.

This isn’t the first time O’Reilly has been accused of sexual harassment. In 2004, he was sued by Fox producer Andrea Mackris who alleged he “repeatedly subjected her to sexual harassment through dinner and phone conversations variously described as lewd, lascivious, vile and threatening.” The allegations included O’Reilly trying to lure Mackris to his hotel room.

The lawsuit alleges that Tantaros was ultimately removed from the air in retaliation for her complaints to Shine and others. Fox News later offered to continue to pay her through the length of her contract if she provided general legal releases to Ailes, O’Reilly, and others. The release would have also prevented her from discussing her time at Fox News in perpetuity.

these are questions only for you to ask and answer yourself....some may apply and some may not.

I ask because whats stopping you from reaching your greatest point of potential....

do you not have anything to wake up and go to work for outside of paying bills with enough left over for some sneak...

do you wake up with a sense that you need to better than you was yesterday.

do you wake up and see if the chick you want to smash , texted you in the night..

do you look at yourself in the mirror and are happy with what you see or what you have become...

do you have or have you made any future plans..

where are you in your future plans? how far does your future plans go?

are they listed step by step with contingency plans or are they just dreams of something you want?

when was the last time you was proud you completed something, a task?

Are you aware of how your surroundings effect your thoughts?

Are you strong enough to block out the negative or must you be in the middle of drama to feel alive?

does you music you listen mostly consist of being in the club, fukk this bitch, i fukked a bitch, beat a nigga ass, im tough like Nigerian hair, alpha male, jumpman jumpman? do you understand how these lyrics effect your thought process and how you view the world?

When was the last time you heard or had an inspirational song in your rotation that didnt have nothing to do with getting illegal money or bagging a hoe?

speaking of hoes....are hoes appealing to you?..why?

if they are women who give themselves freely to any man, how is that attractive to you? regardless of how good she looks, do you think you deserve better? even if its just to get a nut, do you think you time is more valuable than to be laid up with a known cumrag.

Are you happy with your health?

are you happy with your body?

they say a man is only as good as his last challenge...what was your hardest challenge....when was the last real challenge. Are you ok with easy more than you are with hard?

Are you living for today or planning for tomorrow?

Do you have a plan for your grandkids if your kids fukk up?

If you die tomorrow...will your family be able to move forward without struggles?

If someone asked a lil kid that knows you.....what do they see when they see you...what would they say?

Do you think your viewed as a person to be admired because you are not to be fukked with or a person to be admired because you have strong morals and ethics.

How to launch your own beer brand for $5,000

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/how-to-launch-your-own-beer-brand-for-5000-2017-05-25

You’ve run the numbers for starting a craft brewery—and you’re absolutely shocked at the costs. Or maybe you’re lucky enough to already be operating, but you can’t keep up with demand.

In either case, one lower-cost alternative is contract brewing. Here’s what you need to know.
What is contract brewing?

With contract brewing, you hire another brewery to brew and package beer for you, or you can rent out another brewer’s facility and brew the beer yourself. It’s still your beer: You own the recipe and decide how the beer is made.

“The contract brewing model is often is a lot less labor- and time-intensive to get a brand to market, because you have a brewery already set up and ready to roll to brew that brand,” says Julia Herz, craft beer program director for the Brewers Association, a trade group with more than 3,800 U.S. brewery members.

Lower brewing startup costs

The startup costs for a craft brewery can easily exceed $1 million, depending mainly on the size of the operation and its location. Costs include essential brewing equipment, such as kettles, kegs, boilers and fermentation tanks. Upgrading equipment to meet increased demand can also be costly.

“On top of that, when you are a brick-and-mortar brewery, you are dealing with a lot of compliance by making alcoholic beverages in the U.S.,” Herz says, referring to the licensing, permitting and government paperwork involved with this industry.

By contrast, for $5,000, startups can launch a beer brand, says Page Buchanan, owner and founder of House of Brews in Madison, Wisconsin, which offers contract brewing services.

Once they start, owners need to think hard about marketing their beer and building a following, Buchanan says.

More established breweries also turn to contract brewing to save money.
Everything you need to do in your 20s for a great financial future
Contract brewing drawbacks

Contract brewing can save you time, money and stress, but it does have potential drawbacks.

No local presence: You’re handing over your production to another brewery, which may not sit well with customers. New breweries often gain traction in the marketplace by having a local presence, a brewpub or a taproom where the beer is brewed that people can visit, Herz says.

“The key with craft brewers today is integrity behind the brand, the people and a presence behind the brand,” she says.

Contract brewer relationship: The brewery you work with needs to be reliable and trustworthy; it should fill your orders on time and follow recipes exactly as instructed. Ideally, you’ll want to work closely with the brewery and oversee its brewing process.

Networking logistics: Finding a contract brewing service may be tough, as there’s no directory of contract breweries. You could join a brewery association and network with brewery owners who have gone the contract brewing route. This can help you decide if it’s is a fit for your business and, if so, find contract brewers in your area or near a desired distribution point.

No matter which route you choose, the goal remains the same: to produce a quality brew that stands out from the competition.

“Beer is more than just marketing. For many beer lovers, it’s also what’s in the glass and where it came from,” Herz says.

The changing reasons why women cheat on their husbands (Article inside)

$

I know people don't read so I'll highlight some of the reasons why women are admitting to cheating as stated in the article for your viewing pleasure.

they found married life incredibly dull and constraining and resented the fact that as women, they felt they consistently did a disproportionate amount of the invisible labor that went into maintaining their lifestyle.

"I think there's an incredible amount of deep resentment for women in America about divisions of labor," said sociologist Lisa Wade when I asked her to comment on this contradiction. "And what social scientists are finding now is that there is a correlation between equal division of labor and better sex."
* I gather that these women feel like their husbands are not planning sh*t for the family or for her or helping out as much as she would like, so she goes outside of the household to find the "plans" she's missing out on.
We now tell women that they can have it all, that they can work and have a family and deserve to be sexually satisfied. And then when having it all is miserable and overwhelming or they realize marriage isn't all it's cracked it up to be, maybe having affairs is the new plan B."
* Its about time we start telling these women that marriage isn't all its cracked up to be. Only people that want you to get married are your parents and the blood diamond companies. :)
At the time I married, marriage had felt like a panacea; it was a bond that would provide security, love, friendship, stability, and romance -- the chance to have children and nice dishes, to be introduced as someone's wife. It promised to expand my circle of family and improve my credit score, to tether me to something wholesome and give my life meaning.
Could any single relationship not fall short of such expectations?
* Sheesh.
