A Florida man has been arrested after deputies say he slashed his wife's face while wearing a mask and then concocted a story about a home invasion to cover up his actions. But Volusia County Sheriff's investigators say 29-year-old Timothy Hunter confessed after they confronted him with inconsistencies in his story, saying that he was fueled by jealous rage because he suspected that his spouse has been unfaithful to him. He remained in the Volusia County Jail without bond Friday after being charged with aggravated battery and destroying or tampering with evidence. Deputies responded to a home on Steward Terrace at 10.25pm Wednesday and found 27-year-old Kristin Sottosanti bleeding from multiple cuts to her face, according to Volusia County sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson.
Sottosanti, a mother of two, told investigators that a masked stranger entered her home through the back door, knocked her to the ground and slashed her face with a sharp steel object while demanding money. In the recording of a 911 call made by Sottosanti and obtained by The Daytona Beach News-Journal, the panic-stricken woman could be heard telling the operator: 'Someone just came to my house and fucking cut my face up.' The hysterical woman told the female dispatcher that she was home with her two children when a man she didn't know came in and attacked her. Prompted by the operator, Sottosanti described the intruder as a man of medium build 'who sounded black wearing basketball shorts and black tennis shoes.
A few minutes into the conversation, Hunter could be heard entering the house and having an emotional exchange with his injured wife. At one point, the 29-year-old victim told Hunter that she was sitting in the house when she heard some noises, and then the attacker pounced on her. 'I thought it was you messing with me,' she told him. When asked by the weeping Sottosanti if he had seen anyone outside as he was pulling up to the house, the 29-year-old responded that a burgundy four-door sedan followed him from the house all the way to Walmart. When Hunter got on the phone to speak to the 911 dispatcher, he told her that he saw one or two men on their property who fled as he was entering the house. According to Davidson, when deputies arrived on the scene, Hunter once again mentioned 'shadowy figures in the yard.' But when pressed by investigators, Hunter came clean about the attack, saying that it was he who slashed his wife's face while wearing a disguise. The 29-year-old father of two said that he was mad at Sottosanti for cheating on him and 'just wanted to scare her, but then his anger got the best of him.'
According to Hunter's Facebook page, the Deltona resident married Sottosanti in February 2010. The couple have two 3-year-old kids, who were not harmed in the attack.
