Info regarding the book. It was a fast read, I read it in a weekend. It was also a very insightful read. It was personally difficult, but I had to just keep reminding myself that the researchers were trying their best to be objective.
Couple takeaways from the book: These ain't shit daddies are lowering the standard of what a good father is in order for them to live better with themselves.
They don't necessarily want children, but they're not inclined to avoid children. Furthermore, they're happy when they have children because they, by and large, view it as redemptive - a way to get a clean slate. This is also what causes them to have many children by many different women.
These men are also the forgotten in society. Solving this problem is a lot deeper than punishing deadbeat dads. We simply need to accept the realities that these men have children and they're at the bottom of our economy. Doing no or low skilled jobs. If we really want to help, we have to make these men more economically viable.
It delves into the structure of the relationships. Before, men were tied to their wives and to the kids as a result of that bond. In these relationships, men are tied to the kids and the mother as a world. It's set everything on its head. It is what allows men to not feel any way about having multiple kids by multiple women.
It was a very interesting reading. I suggest y'all check it out.
