I always try to find new avenues to make money on the side and I came across one that might be lucrative. Thought I'd bring it to the GNS and get some thoughts on it. I bought a 2003 Ford explorer as a work truck for $1000 93,174 miles on it. A few weeks into driving it the timing chain broke. Called a tow man and when he saw what I was driving he said he already knew it was the timing chain, and that he had brought in 7 to his tow yard already this month. He said most people dont bother to get them fixed. I asked why and he said its labor intensive and to change the timing chain the whole engine has to be removed and thats a $1200 job. I told him I was going to get mine fixed. He said if I can find someone to fix them let him know and he'd sell me the one's on his yard for $500. Long story short I found a guy to fix mine for $660 and its running great. Question is would a $500 truck + $660 labor job + $175 for parts be worth it? I'd probably keep them all under the $3500 range.
