An anecdote, yes but...
My eldest child's best friend dropped out of college last December after only one semester away. In January, her father pretty much gave her an ultimatum: Get a job or go to school to do something. About a month or so ago, she finished her training as a medical assistant at one of the local colleges or trade schools, can't remember which.
She started her new job a few weeks ago as a medical assistant. She makes $21.25/hr. I calculated it from my daughter telling us that she grosses $1700 every two weeks.
She's 19, no kids, and winning as far as I'm concerned.
College ain't for everyone, this much is true, but learning a skilled trade or something of the sort puts you on the path to a financially secure future. Too many people out here are too busy making excuses for these folks that are somehow being forced to "support a family" on minimum wage instead of pointing them in the direction to get out of McJack in the Burger Jr's and on to a better future.
Miss Nancy Salgado's name would probably never been known outside her circle had she done something like this before squeezing a pair of kids out of her chute.
