‘The View’s’ Raven-Symone Says She’d Discriminate Against ‘Ghetto’ Names

It’s difficult to say whether working for Raven-Symone would be a blessing or a curse, but rest assured: The former child star made it known on Thursday’s episode of “The View” that she will not hire somebody with an Africanized name.

The revelation came following a discussion of a recent study that found Americans make racist assumptions based on names.

The “View” panel then played a YouTube video of kids rattling off “ghetto black names,” including “Fo’Landra” and “Elephantisha.”

“Just to bring it back, can we take back ‘racist’ and say ‘discriminatory,’ because I think that’s a better word. It’s just not going to happen. I’m not going to hire you.”

Fires Set At Mostly Black Churches In St. Louis Area Ruled Arson.. Update: 7th church set on fire...

Fires set at six predominantly black churches in the St. Louis, Missouri, region are under investigation as authorities try to determine if they were targeted for religious or racial reasons.

The possibility that the fires — set since Oct. 8 — were motivated by hate is being considered as part of the investigation, St. Louis Fire Capt. Garon Mosby told the Associated Press.

“We believe that this fire-setting activity is meant to send a message,” Mosby said in a statement sent to BuzzFeed News.

The fires have occurred near Ferguson, Missouri, where Michael Brown, an 18-year-old unarmed black man who was shot and killed by a white police officer. A grand jury subsequently decided not to charge Officer Darren Wilson, leading to mass protests.

Five of the six churches that were targets of the arson were predominately black and one is racially-mixed, the Associated Press reported. Each of the fires were started at or near the front or exterior doors of the places of worship, the St. Louis Fire Department said.

The fires have ranged in damage from minimal to nearly destroying another, the AP reported. No one has been been injured, according to the fire department.

“We’ve got similarities in how the fires are set, which is what we’re looking at,” St. Louis Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson said.

Investigators from the St. Louis Regional Bomb and Arson Unit and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are helping police officials to determine if the arson fires are related.

ATF and CrimeStoppers are also offering a reward of $2,000 for information leading to the arrest of individuals responsible for the fires.

The first fire was set on Oct. 8 at Bethel Nondenominational Church in a small town called Jennings adjacent to Ferguson. Another fire was set two days later at New Northside Missionary Baptist Church, also in Jennings.

The next four fires occurred in St. Louis at St. Augustine Catholic Church on Wednesday, the New Testament Church of Christ on Thursday, New Life Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, and Ebenezer Lutheran Church on Sunday.

Just got finishing reading Scarface reasoning on not accepting VH1 request to be honored for the Dirty South Edition. Some of his best points were:

1. "Why would you categorize us as "Dirty South"? Why can't you just honor some muthaf**kers from down here and leave it like that? You ain't gotta make us look extra country. We know where we're from and we know where you're from. We know where Hip Hop came from, man. We're cool with that."

2. "But for an East Coast-based show to call themselves showing some f**kin' love by making a Southern watered-down version of what the show is supposed to be or what Hip Hop really is, man, I feel f**ked up about that s**t. Because we fought harder than a muthaf**ker...."

3. I felt honored that they would even call me to do it. But this year, I totally disagree with how they're trying to categorize us. You know how they make us look on TV? Like we live on the front porch with flies and s**t flying around us, with our stomachs all big eating watermelon rinds? That ain't us, man. Violinist highlights a decade of online abuse

Mia Matsumiya, a violinist based in Los Angeles, has taken a stand against sexual harassment and abuse online by posting screenshots of offensive messages she's received over the past decade.

She is using Instagram to highlight the violence, aggression and volume of inappropriate messages she has received, and hopes it will shine a light on online abuse of women.

The Atheist Alliance of America booked a conference at an Atlanta hotel, which was later also booked at the same time by Women of Color Ministries.

The events were last week, and it didn't go well.

The atheists treated the Christians with kindness and respect.

But the Christians complained to the hotel about the atheists simply being present in the hotel. They threw dirty looks, muttered insults as they walked by, came over them and insulted them with how they're evil, and started praying for them to get "demons" out. Atheists responded with "have a nice day" and offers of refreshments.

Here a Christian is aggressively yelling at atheists, telling them they're "demons," and tells a black woman atheist she has a "slave mentality" and "feels sorry for her mom."

Congrats to the atheists for remaining calm and polite in the face of religious bigotry.

C-SPAN callers are a special breed: civically engaged, obsessive politicos, and sometimes very racist. The network got a live one during a break from Hillary Clinton's Benghazi testimony on Thursday, with a caller asking why Congress doesn't have a "white caucus."

The man who identified himself as David, a Republican calling from Glendale, Ariz., didn't waste time when he got on air.

"Hi, I'd like to know why there is not a white caucus in Congress," David said.

The C-SPAN host interrupted to clarify: "Did you say right caucus?"

"No, white. W-h-i-t-e," the man spelled out.

"OK," the host, clearly caught off-guard, said with eyebrows raised.

"We have a black caucus, we have a Mexican caucus. We don't have a white caucus. I’d like to know why," David went on.

The caller didn't miss a beat before turning back to Clinton: "And also I've watched the Clintons since they first got into politics, and they've never told the truth. It's been a constant lie."

Hurricane Patricia Becomes Strongest Hurricane Ever Recorded; Catastrophic Landfall Expected in Mexico!

Mexico's Pacific coast is in the crosshairs of Hurricane Patricia, which became the most powerful tropical cyclone ever measured in the Western Hemisphere on Friday morning as its maximum sustained winds reached an unprecedented 200 mph (320 kph).

The hurricane is forecast to make landfall in the Mexican state of Jalisco Friday evening as a catastrophic Category 5 hurricane capable of causing widespread destruction. Residents and authorities in Mexico are rushing to prepare for what will likely be the strongest hurricane to ever make landfall on that country's Pacific coastline.

At 4 a.m. CDT, the eye of Hurricane Patricia was about 160 miles (255 kilometers) south-southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico, and was moving north-northwest at 12 mph (19 kph).

In addition to its unprecedented 200-mph (320-kph) sustained winds, Hurricane Patricia now holds the record for lowest pressure in any hurricane on record. With a minimum central pressure of 880 millibars (25.99 inches of mercury) at the 4 a.m. CDT advisory, Patricia broke the record of 882 millibars set by Wilma almost exactly 10 years ago.

Data from an Air Force Hurricane Hunter airborne reconnaissance mission late Thursday night provided critical data demonstrating the extreme intensification of Hurricane Patricia in near-real time.

Unprecedented Among Pacific Hurricanes
Hurricane Patricia became the strongest Pacific hurricane on record shortly after midnight CDT early Friday. Air Force Hurricane Hunters had flown through the eye of Patricia and reported a sea-level pressure of 894 millibars as measured by a dropsonde inside the eye itself. Wind measurements suggested that the pressure measurement was not in the exact center of the eye and was probably not the absolute lowest pressure, prompting NHC to estimate the minimum central pressure at 892 millibars in its special 12:30 a.m. CDT advisory.

Tropical cyclone strength comparisons are typically based on minimum central pressure. At 892 millibars, Patricia shattered the Eastern Pacific basin's previous record of 902 millibars set by Hurricane Linda in 1997.

While a number of typhoons in the western North Pacific have been stronger, Patricia is by far the strongest hurricane in any basin where the term "hurricane" applies to tropical cyclones – namely, the central and eastern North Pacific basins and the North Atlantic basin, which includes the North Atlantic Ocean itself plus the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea.

Exceptionally Dangerous Situation in Mexico
The eye of Patricia is expected to move onshore Friday night in the Mexican state of Jalisco, which includes the popular coastal resort city of Puerto Vallarta as well as the inland metropolis of Guadalajara, Mexico's second-largest city.

The adjoining states of Colima and Nayarit will also feel the effects of Hurricane Patricia, which in addition to catastrophic winds will also bring a formidable flood threat. Depending on the exact track of Patricia's eye, the resort city of Manzanillo may experience destructive winds, and is very likely to see flooding rainfall, dangerous storm surge and large, battering ocean waves breaking onshore.

DeKalb County police are investigating the deadly officer-involved shooting of 27 Year Old Anthony Hill.

The shooting happened at an apartment complex just after 1 p.m. Monday afternoon on Chamblee Tucker Road.

Witnesses described bizarre and unexplained moments that led to this shooting.

Channel 2 Action News has obtained exclusive video of the man that was shot, hanging naked from a balcony and walking around before police arrived.

"He was doing weird movement. He was crawling on the floor, lying down on the floor," said one witness, who asked not to be identified

The officer was responding to reports of an unarmed and unclothed man banging on doors and crawling on the ground.

“He tells me, ‘I'mOK, I'm OK.’ That's what he was saying,” the witness said.

The witness said he told the man to go inside or he was going to get arrested.

"He was acting crazy but he was calm like he didn't know where he was. He was like kind of lost in his face," the witness said.

The responding officer, who is described as a seven-year veteran, confronted the man.

Some witnesses and the chief of police say the man was aggressive and lunged at the officer.

"When the male saw the officer, he charged running at the officer the officer called on him to step back, drew his weapon and fired two shots,” said DeKalb County Director of Public Safety Cedric Alexander.

The man died on the scene. Some believe the shooting was justified, others aren't sure.

"He ran to the police. He runs wide open with the hands up," the witness said.

The man who was shot identified as Anthony Hill was black and 27 years old, and The officer is a white male. The chief says he wants a transparent investigation in light of officer involved shootings in other parts of the country.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case to investigate.

We’ve heard of a “Daddy Daycare,” but Daddy’s Jailhouse?

Over the past year, there has been a lot of discussions surrounding whether parents shaming their kids online is appropriate, and that conversation revved up again this week when a Corpus Christi, Texas father posted his method of disciplining his daughter online.

For the past few weeks, Juliano Parker and his girlfriend Yvonne had become frustrated with their 3-year-old Aubrey Ella, so the parents of three decided to put the “pen” in playpen and transformed their cozy apartment into a jailhouse. Taking to Facebook, Juliano posted his daughter’s “mugshot” with the following caption:

“My daughter Aubrey’Ella has been fighting with my wife and I, disrespecting us in public, not listening and talking back a lot. Spankings don’t work no more. My daughter is used to spankings and nowadays you can’t spank kids how they did back in the day [because] they call that abuse.

So today I told my daughter since you wanna be a bad girl, let me show you where the bad kids go. I turned my apartment into a jail. I took away her clothes, now she gets to wear my orange shirt.”



Juliano also detailed Aubrey’s metaphorical life behind-bars:
While her brother and sister are eating pizza and drinking juice, she gets meat, potatoes and water. I made her clean up the front room and wash the dishes. And took away her bed and gave her a small mattress, put it on the floor and made her sleep by herself. Giving her a taste of what it’s like to be in jail for not following the law.

Now ya’ll can say what ya’ll want but I’m breaking this bad behavior before it gets too out of control without spanking her.”


He even posted a photo of Aubrey in action, standing on the chair to do the dishes, as well as eating her non-pizza for dinner.

Once the photo went up, people took to social media to respond and the reactions were split down the middle:

After catching wind of the mixed reactions, Juliano, who is also a Christian music artist and active member of his church in Corpus Christi, apologized for the punishment, admitting that he had no intentions of the post going viral and announced that he has reconsidered his disciplinary action.

It will be interesting to see whether Juliano’s new method of trying to be “extra nice” and loving on her even more works out for the Parkers. From the looks of his Facebook page, Juliano really seems to love his family (he has another boy and girl aside from Aubrey with his wife Yvonne), it appears he just ran out options for how to go about disciplining his baby girl.

Anthony Mackie on an AA Directing 'Black Panther': "They Didn't Get A Horse To Direct Seabiscuit

So far Anthony Mackie's promo run for his upcoming film Our Brand Is Crisis has been a disaster. Last time he made some news the actor caught heat for sorta, kinda endorsing Donald Trump, something he tried to fix by claiming it was a bad joke that was taken out of context. This time he's making headlines for something even more absurd. While sitting down with Jen Yamato for The Daily Beast, Mackie spoke on his new movie with Sandra Bullock, America's current political landscape, and then got himself into some trouble when talking about the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

When speaking on whether or not Black Panther—the sixth film starring a black superhero as the lead (see: Blankman, Meteor Man, Hancock, Blade, and Spawn)—should have a black director, Mackie goes off the rails and says:

I don’t think it’s important at all. As a director your job is to tell a story. You know, they didn’t get a horse to direct Seabiscuit! The thing is I don’t think the race of the director has to do with their ability to tell a story. I think it’s all about the director’s ability to be able to relate to that story and do it justice. I think men can direct women, and two of my greatest work experiences were with female directors. So I think it all depends. May the best man—or woman—win.

Mackie ruined the great points he made in that statement with another bad joke. Dude is his publicist's worst nightmare right now. Did they get a horse to direct Seabiscuit? He should take that show on the road. Anyway, let's get either F. Gary Gray or John Singleton to direct Black Panther since Ava DuVernay passed on it.
