    http://money.cnn.com/2017/11/02/investing/mcdonalds-mcrib/index.html

The return of a cult classic.

McDonald's is bringing back the McRib, a sandwich that it launched in 1982 and removed from its menu in 1985.

McDonald's has a "coming soon" McRib page on its corporate web site and the company confirmed to CNNMoney that the McRib, which also comes with dill pickles and onions on a toasted hoagie-style bun, is making a comeback for its 35th anniversary.

The Twitter accounts for local McDonald's restaurants in Southern California and Hawaii have been promoting the return, too.

There are some changes though. The bun no longer has high fructose corn syrup --even though the sauce still does. You can also order the McRib and have it delivered via Mickey D's partnership with ridesharing giant Uber's UberEats service.

And there is, of course, a McRib Finder app for iOS and Android phones that also features McRib-themed stickers.

After the last few threads about men and their kids, i have a question.

it seems alot of dudes just allow the mother to call all the shots when it comes to the child and they fall back and allow it. but what would it take for you as a father to finally say i want physical custody of the child.

Physical is having the child live with you. physical and legal custody is allowing the other parent visitation while they are not able to make decisions regarding the childs life. which most guys get and are ok with.

but what would have to happen for you to go for it and why havent you gone for it up to this point?

and Ladies, why is it looked at as a bad thing when a father goes after his child? why does the mother have to be a terrible person for a man to make the decision to want his child? Or why does it have to be about not paying support, when supporting a line in child is more expensive? why can a man just want his child without it being looked at as some sort of a vindictive thing?

after reading the tyrese history....and i thought about it...
how many dude are that close to their child that they would break down like that from not seeing them after two months? how far would you go to show them and remind them that daddy is thinking about you?

ok, he shouldnt have done it on social media...we get that. but in court rooms i have seen dudes break down...see it all the time. others just be like fukk it and dont care what happens and are ok with being a 2 weekend a month dad.

and people who fathers stepped away.....how you feel about this type shit? how did you feel when your dad stepped away? do you know the whole story or only what you are told? did you ever see it from his point of view?

    lets talk about it.

Here's an old (new-to-me) video of famed critic and journalist Christopher Hitchens being waterboarded, after agreeing to it in order to back up his claim that waterboarding wasn't torture; needless to say, afterwards, he did a 180 and admitted that he was wrong, one of the few times he ever did that:

    image

So I'm curious to hear other thoughts on this issue.

If the "bad guys" (e.g., terrorists) torture, should the "good guys" (government officials) be able to do it too?

What is torture, and is it inherently evil and thus unjustifiable (deontology)?

Is state-sponsored torture an effective way of extracting vital intel and saving lives (e.g., the prevention of a terrorist attack)? Do the ends justify the means (consequentialism)?

What about Guantanamo Bay? Life-and-death situations? Non-citizens? "War-time" espionage?

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/china-makes-disrespecting-national-anthem-punishable-jail-083055222.html

China's rubber-stamp legislature on Saturday made disrespecting the national anthem a criminal offense punishable by up to three years in prison amid rising nationalist appeals from the ruling Communist Party under the leadership of President Xi Jinping.

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress passed an amendment to the country's criminal law outlining punishments for people found "seriously" disrespecting the national anthem in public.

The move follows Xi's appointment to a second five-year term as party leader, for which he has touted a vision of achieving a "Chinese Dream" of a powerful, prosperous nation. It also comes as the anthem, "March of the Volunteers," has in recent months been a political flashpoint in the southern Chinese city of Hong Kong, where tensions are rising over Beijing's efforts to assert its authority over the territory.

According to the amendment passed Saturday in Beijing, penalties include detention, imprisonment of up to three years and the deprivation of political rights. Such punishments previously applied to the desecration of the national flag and emblem in public, China's official Xinhua News Agency reported.

The legislature also moved to apply a separate, recently passed law on the national anthem to Hong Kong and Macau, Chinese semiautonomous regions with separate legal systems.

Soccer fans in Hong Kong have booed the anthem when it's played at games between the home team and teams from China or other countries, leading to fines from FIFA, the sport's governing body. Pro-democracy activists and lawmakers fear a national anthem law could be used to undermine freedom of speech in Hong Kong.

The National Anthem Law, which came into effect in October, stated that playing the anthem on occasions deemed improper, including funerals, or for changing its wording or presenting it in a disrespectful manner could be punished with 15 days in detention. China's legislature adopted a decision to include the law in Hong Kong's and Macau's mini-constitutions, known in each territory as the Basic Law.

Xinhua cited Zhang Rongshun, deputy director of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the top parliamentary body, as saying it was "urgent and important" to apply the anthem law in Hong Kong to address recent incidents.

"In recent years, incidents of disrespecting the national anthem had occurred in Hong Kong, challenging the bottom line of the principle of 'one country, two systems' and social morality, and triggering rage among Chinese, including most Hong Kong residents," Zhang said.

Since his appointment as party leader in 2012, Xi has established a growing cult of personality that leans heavily on his image as a patriotic leader who brooks no slight to national dignity. Hallmarks of his term in office have included a stronger military, bolder foreign policy and aggressive economic expansion abroad, as well as sharply reduced space for criticism or political dissent at home.

    jamaicaobserver.com/mobile/news/17-Guns-for-freedom_16459328

CONVICTED entertainer Vybz Kartel told the police the whereabouts of several wanted men in Portmore, St Catherine and provided the authorities with information that led to the recovery of 17 illegal firearms, a highly-placed police source has disclosed.

The move by the embattled entertainer was part of an effort to gain his freedom, or at least a vastly reduced prison sentence, the police said.

The startling revelation came to light during a Jamaica Observer interview with a member of the constabulary's top brass late last week.

"He wanted to meet with the commissioner who assigned a member of the high command to meet him. During the meeting he offered information on wanted men in Portmore and also coughed up a number of illegal firearms. He was trying to broker a deal to get the charges dropped," the source said.

The police said several wanted men were subsequently nabbed.

Kartel along with André St John, Shawn 'Shawn Storm' Campbell and Kahira Jones were all found guilty and slapped with life sentences for the murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams, who police say was bludgeoned to death at a house in Havendale, St Andrew, on August 16, 2011.

The men will have to serve 35, 30, and 25 years respectively if the Appellate Court throws out their appeals, which will likely be heard in a minimum three years from now, based upon the pace at which such appeals are dealt with.

According to the police source, the artiste made the offer when he realised that the walls were closing in on him, after homicide investigators were sealing up their probe into Williams' murder.

The police also said that Kartel and a funeral director also met with a top-ranking cop after a probe was launched into whether or not Williams' remains were cremated.

Police are also probing the disappearance of funeral home operator Jennifer Edwards, who went missing in January.

The police said evidence was suggesting that Edwards was killed and her body disposed of as she had knowledge of sinister dealings relating to Williams' body.

"We believe she was killed because she was the weak link and she knew too much, but we are still investigating," the source said.

Last Wednesday, Police Commissioner Owen Ellington drew the ire of defence attorney Tom Tavares-Finson when he declared that Kartel (real name Adidja Palmer) was the boss of a criminal outfit that was responsible for more than 100 murders.

Tavares-Finson could not be reached for comment on the latest allegation as the Sunday Observer prepared for a press deadline.

The Sunday Observer source went even further and named a well-known gang based in several Spanish Town communities, as the gang that the commissioner was referring to.

"He was very influential in the Klansman gang. That gang used to carry out his killings for him until his Gaza Empire started doing the murders themselves. We have footage of him and a leading Klansman member bragging about the best places to kill people, whether in the church or other places. That Klansman was heard bragging that he shot eight people in a church already," the source said.

The Sunday Observer has also been informed that the police have in their possession additional footage of the video that was shown in court where men were overheard planning murder.

The footage, the source said, showed a headless body, believed to be that of Williams, lying on the floor.

It was not clear why that was not entered into evidence during the recently concluded trial.

Shawn Campbell, another police source said, may have been a victim of loyalty to the 'Worl' Boss' as he now faces the possibility of serving a 25-year sentence after refusing a deal to plead guilty to accessory before or after the fact and serve a

    three-year sentence.

The police said that Campbell may not have known that Williams and the prosecution star witness Lamar Chow were earmarked for death when he accompanied them in a taxi driven by a man known only as 'Need For Speed', to the ill-fated house.

"We have information that he was under the impression that the men would be beaten for their carelessness in the disappearance of the two guns. When he arrived, we heard he was surprised to see so many strange men, who we believe to be members of the Klansman gang, and that is why him tek weh himself.

"We know that it is only after the voice notes were revealed that he became aware that he, too, could have been harmed over the guns. Maybe he would have acted differently if he had heard some of the things that came out in court," the source said.

All four convicts are now being housed in a maximum security section of the New Horizon Adult Remand Centre on Spanish Town Road in Kingston where high-risk inmates are kept at the State's pleasure.

Reports: Mueller Impanels Grand Jury In Federal Russia Probe

Robert Mueller, the special counsel overseeing the federal investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, recently impaneled a grand jury as part of the probe, several news outlets reported on Thursday.

The Wall Street Journal reported, citing two unnamed sources familiar with the matter, that the Washington, D.C. grand jury “began its work in recent weeks” and is separate from the one assisting with the probe into President Donald Trump’s former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. The impanelment of that jury predated Mueller’s appointment as special counsel.

Reuters confirmed, citing two unnamed sources familiar with the matter, that Mueller convened a grand jury.

The empanelment of a new, separate grand jury reflects the scope of Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the election and whether any members of Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia.

Reuters also reported that grand jury subpoenas were issued in connection with a meeting between Donald Trump Jr., the President’s eldest son, and a Russian lawyer.

Trump Jr. attended the meeting after he was promised damaging information on Hillary Clinton as part of a Russian government effort to aid his father’s campaign. It was not clear whether those subpoenas were issued by the grand jury Mueller impaneled.

    https://www.yahoo.com/tech/venture-capitalist-david-lee-sues-193104212.html

Millions of dollars are at stake in a legal battle between Ron Conway and his former SV Angel partner David Lee, according to a suit filed last week in Marin County Superior Court and first reported by Axios.

Lee filed the complaint last week claiming Conway has not paid him in previously promised fees and agreed upon shares in investments in companies such as Airbnb, Pinterest and Snapchat.

Lee was the former managing partner of SV Angel, which he founded with Conway, but left two years ago in what was portrayed back then as "a personal decision to spend more time with his family," in Los Angeles, according to a piece detailing the departure in Fortune.

However, it seems the split was not so amicable. In fact, Conway was allegedly critical of Lee when speaking to LP's about Lee's lack of involvement and move to L.A.

Conway also believed his former partner to be paying himself far and above the fund's $250,000 annual salary cap by skimming off of SV Angel funds through a technique known as a fee waiver, a fairly common way for fund managers to cover the costs they are expected to invest upfront. The concept was apparently foreign to Conway, however.

Now Lee, who runs a vc firm called Refactor Capital, claims Conway owes him $3.5 million for breach of contract and unpaid fees the two had previously agreed to before Lee's departure. Further, Lee wants declaratory relief to ensure he is paid for future exits in investments he made with the firm, which could total $15 million to $20 million.

However, Conway tells TechCrunch Lee filed the suit before the two could work things out.

"Recently a dispute has arisen regarding compliance with some settlement agreement terms," Conway said in a statement. "Before we could resolve our differences, David filed a lawsuit insisting upon money that SV Angel does not believe he is entitled to receive."

"It is very disappointing that David is trying to pressure SV Angel to pay monies that do not belong to him, and the SV Angel funds intend to vigorously defend against David’s meritless claims," Conway said.

When asked for comment, Lee told TechCrunch the following: "When I left SV Angel, Ron Conway and I reached a settlement regarding my departure. Many of the terms we agreed upon were proposed by Ron. I wish Ron no ill will. I simply want him to honor the agreement we signed.".

Lonzo Ball and his family’s Big Baller Brand have made waves in the apparel industry by straying from tradition. Rather than partner with a more established brand like Nike or Adidas, the Balls chose to launch their own company and sell all of their shoes and other gear directly through their site.

Ball already has a signature shoe, and now he’ll be getting a whole collection of apparel, and it will be the first offering from Big Baller Brand available in traditional stores, according to Jovan Buha of ESPN:

Big Baller Brand is debuting the “ZO2 Collection” apparel line for Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball today at ComplexCon in Long Beach, Calif. According to the company, the “ZO2 Collection” is the first line of Big Baller Brand products to be offered wholesale to retailers. Up to this point, all Big Brand Brand products have been sold exclusively on BigBallerBrand.com.

Big Baller Brand being available in more traditional retailers is an interesting move for the brand, and it will be fascinating to see how people being able to try on their apparel in stores will affect the public’s willingness to pay the often exorbitant prices for the gear.

Buha also reports that brand will be making another move that has become more traditional for basketball players in recent years — trying to capture the Chinese market:

Big Baller Brand is still “weeks away” from launching its Big Baller Brand China flagship stores in Shanghai and Hong Kong — as well as its Chinese retail site — but the goal of the pop-up shops is to expand the brand’s global reach and get the Chinese market familiarized with the brand and family,

The NBA has become increasingly popular in China in recent years, and perhaps no American player captured the country’s interest more than former Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant.

By playing for Bryant’s team with a flashy, visually-pleasing and pass-happy style, it will be intriguing to watch whether or not Ball is able to grab any type of similar foothold in the country as his family, game and brand become more familiar overseas.
