Anonymous Threatens to Take the Hoods Off of 1,000 KKK Members

In the newest chapter of their recurring online war with the Ku Klux Klan, the activist group Anonymous issued a considerable threat towards them on Twitter last week:



The conflict between the two organizations began in November of last year when the white supremacist group issued threats on its main Twitter account towards those protesting Michael Brown‘s death. In response to the vow of “lethal force,” Anonymous briefly took control of their account and announced that they would publish the names and social media account information of any Klansmen they uncovered as part of #OpKKK.

“We are not attacking you because of what you believe in as we fight for freedom of speech,” the hackers said in a recent statement. “We are attacking you because of what you do to our brothers and sisters.”

Members have reportedly been leaving the KKK for fear of exposure in past months. With the new information that has been discovered, the hackers released a new statement to reaffirm that they will continue to unmask and target supremacist websites:

The aim of the operation is nothing more than cyber Warfare. Anything you upload will be taken down, anything you use to promote the KKK will be shut down…You are more than a hate group. You operate much more like terrorists and you should be recognized as such. You are terrorists that hide your identities beneath sheets and infiltrate society on every level.

Berkeley High Students Walk Out to Protest Racist Messages on Library Computer

Berkeley High School students walked out of class Thursday to protest racist messages that showed up on one of the school’s library computers.

Throngs of students took to Milvia Street, waving posters and bullhorns, chanting "black lives matter" and "raise a fist if you're not gonna take this" as they walked to Berkeley City Hall. The march ended on the steps of Sproul Plaza on the UC Berkeley campus, a site used for student protests since the Free Speech Movement protests of 1964.

According to a letter sent out by Berkeley High School Principal Sam Pasarow, "the hateful and racist message" was discovered around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and contained threatening language toward African-Americans.

The Berkeley High Black Student Union tweeted out a screenshot of the messages, which read, "KKK Forever Public Lynching December 9th 2015" and "I hung a ni**** by his neck in my backyard," among other racist taunts.

"This is a hate crime and messages such as this one will not stand in our community," Pasarow wrote in his letter, adding that both Berkeley High School and Berkeley police were actively investigating the incident.

The Black Student Union decried the messages, calling it a "blatant act of terrorism." "The safety of Black students has been explicitly threatened, and we as the Black Student Union demand that this is addressed immediately by the Berkeley High administration and Berkeley Police Department," the union said in a statement.

"We are working hard to create a positive and inclusive school culture and we recognize the deep pain and rage that hate crimes such as this one bring to our students of color, as well as the damaging effects on our entire community," the letter said. "Even as we continue our investigation we recognize the need to address the harm that this has caused, and to that end we will be spending time planning as a staff about how to support and care for our students. "

The Black Student Union decried the messages, calling it a "blatant act of terrorism." "The safety of Black students has been explicitly threatened, and we as the Black Student Union demand that this is addressed immediately by the Berkeley High administration and Berkeley Police Department," the union said in a statement.

The statement went on to say that in the past, similar acts against black students have been ignored.

Berkeley Unified School District spokesperson Mark Coplan told the Daily Californian that the screenshot was left open on the library computer, there was no actual hacking involved.

Berkeley Councilmember Jesse Arreguin also spoke out against the messages, saying that hate speech of any kind would not be tolerated in Berkeley. "I'm mad this morning over the racist and outrageous hate speech posted on a Berkeley High computer," Arreguin, who was present at the student demonstration at Berkeley City Hall, said.

In one of the great success stories of interspecies animal breeding, the coyote-wolf hybrid ‘coywolf’ can now count its numbers in the millions.

This new animal, which has emerged in the eastern part of North America over the last century or so, is better than both its predecessors.

At 25kg, it’s twice the size of a coyote; it has larger jaws and bigger muscles meaning it can take down deer; it’s equally adept at hunting in forests and open terrain.

It’s also got some dog in it, about a tenth. With 25 per cent wolf DNA, coyote is the dominant species, according to research by Javier Monzón from Stony Brook University in New York.

That dog DNA means it can get along with people better than either a wolf or coyote, and consequently it can increasingly be seen in urban environments.

What’s extraordinary about this isn’t that it came into existence - the changing landscape of the United States forced canines to broaden their mating horizons - but that it has multiplied so rapidly.

Dr Roland Kays of North Carolina State University told The Economist its numbers are now in the millions.

The creation, which is also called the eastern coyote, can go nearly anywhere. And it’s expanding its territory.

So smart is the coywolf that is even looks both ways before crossing the road. Dr Kays is blown away by this “amazing contemporary evolution story that’s happening right underneath our nose”.

Some dispute whether the coywolf is genetically different enough to be considered its own species but Jonathan Way from the National Park Service says that there’s enough morphological and genetic divergence that it should be placed in a class of its own.

But there is the rule of species that it doesn't breed with outsiders, and the coywolf continues to mate with dogs and wolves. Perhaps they’re not so different after all.

9 Year Old Lured Into Alley And Killed Due To Father's Gang Ties

Nine year old Tyshawn Lee was targeted because of his father's gang ties, lured into a South Side alley Monday afternoon and executed, Chicago police officials said Thursday.

Speaking at the edge of the Gresham alley where Tyshawn was shot multiple times, Chicago police Superintendent Garry McCarthy called the slaying "probably the most abhorrent, cowardly, unfathomable crime" he had seen in his 35 years in law enforcement.

McCarthy said police believe Tyshawn was killed because of his father's gang ties and a recent series of shootings between rival gangs.

Law enforcement sources have told the Tribune that the bloody conflict involves rival factions of two of Chicago's oldest gangs — the Gangster Disciples and the Black P Stones. Police believe the Terror Dome faction of the Black P Stones targeted Pierre Stokes' son because his father, a convicted felon, reputedly belongs to the Gangster Disciples' Killa Ward faction.

Last month, a Killa Ward member was wounded and a teenage woman killed in a retaliatory shooting just days after a Terror Dome member was fatally shot and his mother wounded, according to police.

Tyshawn, a fourth-grader at Joplin Elementary School who loved to play basketball, was walking to his grandmother's house Monday afternoon when police said he was lured to the alley in the 8000 block of South Damen Avenue and shot repeatedly. A basketball he always carried with him was found nearby.

McCarthy told reporters that Stokes might know who killed his son but that he has refused to cooperate with police. When investigators approached him, Stokes responded with words that "you can't say ... on TV," McCarthy said.

"I don't think he's a witness to it, so I'm not sure how he could help us, but I could tell you this, I'm a father, many of us here are fathers," McCarthy said. "My reaction would be a little bit different."

Stokes, who lives a few blocks away, was talking to a Chicago police officer near the scene of his son's killing when McCarthy's news conference ended. Reporters asked him to respond to McCarthy's comments.

"No, I don't think it was no retaliation because I never did nothing to — for nobody to hurt my son," he said.

Asked if he had the names of any suspects he could provide police, he answered, "No, I do not."

Earlier in the week, Stokes, 25, told the Tribune no one would have a motive to kill him, but if someone did there was no reason to take it out on his son because he's out in the neighborhood all the time. If anyone wanted to harm him, it wouldn't be difficult, he said.

"I'm not hard to find," Stokes said.

Barefoot and frightened, Nicole Holder walked as fast as she could through the darkness, and the moment she saw the cops she ran. She headed west on Fifth Street toward North Church, away from the Charlotte., N.C., apartment of Greg Hardy, a star defensive end then with the NFL’s Carolina Panthers. Minutes earlier he had, she said, thrown her against a tile bathtub wall, tossed her on a futon covered in assault rifles, and choked her until she told him to “kill me so I don’t have to.”

Officer Jeffrey Kendrick ran after her, ordering her to stop. Holder turned and walked toward him, and Kendrick asked her why she was crying.

“It doesn’t matter,” she told him. “Nothing is going to happen to him anyways.”

A year and a half after Hardy was arrested and charged with attacking Holder, it’s clear that she was mostly right. Last year, Hardy was convicted of assault in a bench trial, but the charges were dismissed on appeal and, it was reported yesterday, expunged. He missed more than a season of football, but went on to sign with the Dallas Cowboys, for whom he’s become a bigger star than ever despite (or perhaps because of) a series of incidents ranging from making sexist comments in a press conference to going after a coach on the sidelines. Jerry Jones, the Cowboys’ billionaire owner, calls him a “real leader” who has the respect of all his teammates and inspires America’s Team.

Unlike Ray Rice, the former Baltimore Ravens star who was filmed knocking his future wife unconscious in an elevator, Hardy hasn’t become a pariah. That’s partly because he’s more valuable on the field, but also because of the perception that nobody knows what really happened that night. Hardy won’t talk about it; Holder has gone quiet ever since, prosecutors say, she received a settlement, which contributed to the criminal case against him falling apart. And, crucially, no photos or videos ever came out. Police and prosecutorial records that detail what happened that night have largely been kept from the public—though not from the NFL.

Deadspin has obtained hundreds of pages of those records, some previously reported—police reports, interview transcripts, and more. Photos, dozens of them, show bruises over much of Holder’s body, including her back, her arms, her legs, her chin, her neck, and even her foot.

Below are many, but not all, of the photos taken of Nicole Holder within 24 hours of when she says Hardy attacked her. Many are disturbing and hard to look at; our decision to publish them was based on the convincing evidence they present of what happened that night.

Before publishing these photos and documents, I reached out to Holder’s lawyer, Daniel Zamora, who declined to comment. Hardy’s criminal case attorney, Chris Fialko, said he was done with the case and referred me to Ft. Lauderdale defense lawyer Frank Maister. He told me,“I’m not going to make any comments about the case whatsoever.”

Hardy’s version of events depicts him as the victim. To believe that requires ignoring a great deal of evidence. Police documents make clear that Holder wasn’t acting like a criminal fleeing the scene that night—the story Hardy’s lawyer would have you to believe—but like a battered woman. At one point, she even repeated to an officer the line that’s become universal shorthand for domestic violence: “I fell down some stairs.”

“It was either really good or really bad”

Greg Hardy and Nicole Holder met in 2012; Hardy, then a second-year player for the Carolina Panthers, was seeing her roommate. The two started dating in September 2013, while Hardy was on his way to his first Pro Bowl, and things got serious quickly. Holder said she moved in that November, which Hardy denied. Either way, she had the keys to his home, an apartment in the Ivey’s, a renovated mixed-use building just two and a half blocks away from Suite Charlotte, where Holder tended bar.

Things got bad, Holder said, starting around Christmas. He started asking Why did you do this to us? and calling her a slut, Holder told a detective. The details of the breakup depend on which person answers the question. Holder says he kicked her out of the apartment on the first of March; Hardy said it was right after the Pro Bowl because he was tired of arguing and needed to focus on football. It wasn’t quite over, though, and come May, Holder and Hardy were still in each other’s lives.

“It was very up and down. It always seemed like there was an issue,” her friend and co-worker Laura Iwanicki would later say in court. “It was either really good or really bad, and I felt I didn’t think there was any in between.”

“We were all having a great time”

On May 12, 2014, Holder got a text from Sammy Curtis, Hardy’s personal assistant and manager, asking her and Iwanicki to come hang out at Hardy’s apartment that Sunday night.

Curtis is a familiar type, a longtime friend of Hardy’s who moved to Charlotte two years after Hardy was drafted out of Mississippi by the Panthers so that he could, as he later said in court, “help Greg develop businesses and just with his day-to-day activities, relieve stress off of him so he could perform better on the football field.”

The two women got ready and arrived at Hardy’s apartment about 8 p.m., joining up with Hardy, Curtis, and Tormarco “Marco” Harris, another member of Hardy’s entourage, along with two other women the men had met that afternoon. Iwanicki noticed a pile of guns on the futon, took a picture, and shared it on Snapchat with the caption “Casual ...”

The academy has occupied a central place in Carson’s tale for years. According to a story told in Carson’s book, “Gifted Hands,” the then-17 year old was introduced in 1969 to Gen. William Westmoreland, who had just ended his command of U.S. forces in Vietnam, and the two dined together. That meeting, according to Carson’s telling, was followed by a “full scholarship” to the military academy.

West Point, however, has no record of Carson applying, much less being extended admission."
