Religious kids are harsher and less generous than atheist ones, study says
![19125056-mmmain.jpg]()
When it comes to teaching kids the Golden Rule, Sunday school might not be the best bet.
A new study in the journal Current Biologyfound children in religious households are significantly less generous than their non-religious peers.
At the same time, religious parents were more likely than non-religious ones to consider their children empathetic and sensitive to the plight of others.
It's a common assumption in the United States that faith goes hand-in-hand with goodness. The Pew Research Center reported last year that 53 percent of Americans think it's necessary to believe in God to be moral.
Americans overwhelmingly elect Christian representatives, and they distrust atheists.
This study challenges those attitudes. It was the children in non-religious homes most likely to be generous toward a stranger. The longer a child had lived in a religious home, the stingier he was compared to his secular peers.
Here's how the study worked: researchers asked kids to play a game which required them to decide how many stickers to share with an anonymous peer from the same school and similar ethnic group.
In their report, the researchers noted it was important for the anonymous stranger to be similar to the child so that other biases didn't get in the way.
Researchers also measured how children perceived interpersonal harm and what degree of punishment they thought was appropriate.
Religious children judged others' actions as meaner and more deserving of punishment than kids in secular homes.
The study concluded that in this way religious children tend to come across as more judgmental, while also being less altruistic.
Nearly 1,200 children from the U.S., Canada, Jordan, Turkey, South Africa and China participated. Most of the kids came from Christian, Muslim or non-religious households, with a small number from Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu and agnostic homes. Their ages ranged from 5 to 12.

Quality Time vs. "Me Time"
How much time do you spend with your S/O??
Initially, were you under each other 24/7 or did you set parameters at the beginning of the relationship?
Does it ever get old?? Or maybe when you're deep into a relationship you just never get tired of each other... Maybe it doesn't even feel like you're enduring time with a person.
And before y'all start, that doesn't mean I'm craving the attention of someone else.
Just that... I miss my me time and didn't really cherish it until it was gone.
The cute 'joined at the hip' phase is over...
But the flip side of that is someone that doesn't spend enough time with their mate.
I'd much rather have a man be too into me than not into me enough... But there's gotta be a balance...
So... How do you balance it?!
Does how much time you initially spend with each other begin to taper off? If so, how long does it last until you're like..'ok, we need to miss each other'?
A month or two? A year?

Most women are bisexual or gay but 'never straight,' new study shows.
We like them girls that like them girls.
Most women aren’t actually straight, at least when it comes down to what arouses them.
A new study from the University of Essex found that most women who say they are straight are truly aroused by videos of both naked men and naked women, The Telegraph reports.
Conducted by researchers at the university's Department of Psychology, the study involved 345 women. As they were shown "nudie videos," researchers analyzed the women's responses, including whether their pupils dilated while taking in the sexual stimuli. They found that 82 percent of the women were aroused by both men and women in the buff. Of the women who identified as straight, 74 percent were strongly aroused by videos of both attractive men and attractive women.
There was an exception to the pattern of bisexuality found in the study: Women who identified as lesbians did show a much stronger response to images of women than men. According to the researchers, this greater arousal by the person's preferred sex is a pattern more typically seen in men.
"Even though the majority of women identify as straight, our research clearly demonstrates that when it comes to what turns them on, they are either bisexual or gay, but never straight," Dr. Gerulf Rieger, lead researcher in the study, told The Telegraph.

If your girl is a terrible cook you may want to try someone else's cooking.
If she can't cook @obnoxiouslyfresh

Pig Union head says Quentin Tarantino "Race Baits"...
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/fraternal-order-police-president-quentin-838062
Fraternal Order of Police President: Quentin Tarantino "Race Baits"
We revere the right to freedom of speech. After all, police have sworn to uphold all laws, and to protect the rights of those who act within the law, whether we agree or not. Conversely, we also have a Constitutional right to disagree. That’s where we find ourselves with [Quentin] Tarantino. His comments reflect more than just a glimpse into the mind of a very strange man, they reflect a growing misunderstanding of the administration of public safety policy in this country.
He spoke publicly and with great publicity; we have reacted. He’s promoting a movie; our only weapon in response is to endeavor to reduce that movie’s revenue. Will we succeed? The history of boycotts indicates that we probably will not — this movie will probably do better than it deserves to because of the publicity he’s ginned up.
That being said, we had to do what we’ve done — we can’t let irresponsible comments by self-appointed champions of the downtrodden ride roughshod over the truth. Police officers are the only element of local government that exists in the poorest parts of many of our nation’s cities. Poverty, a decaying infrastructure, a failed educational system, squalid housing and broken homes is what far too many of our citizens are born to. Police officers are the only manifestation of government that some ever see — and then only when something’s gone wrong. Tarantino didn’t need to whip up that crowd — they’re whipped up by the colossal failure of their elected officials.
A recent analysis of available data from the Washington Post showed that 74 percent of police-involved shootings occurred when the assailant had already fired or brandished a firearm or had launched an attack with some other weapon. In only 5 percent of these cases was the officer's decision or judgment called into question. This is our job, our sworn profession, but we are human and we will make mistakes. In the movies, choreographed gunfights scenes are filmed at all angles over the course of several hours or days, but law enforcement officers have to make life or death decisions in a split second. There are no second takes — we have to get it right the first time.
So Tarantino race baits, and we boycott. No happy ending to this short drama — rather than trying to help heal the wounds, Tarantino picks at the scabs. Rather than conciliatory, Tarantino is stoking the fires of hate and division that have made him a very wealthy man. I hate that this movie will make him still richer, and that perhaps this boycott and whatever else we may do will be to no avail; but, as long as there are befuddled demagogues like him bashing the police, there will be folks like me trying to get the truth out there.
Chuck Canterbury is the national president of the Fraternal Order of Police, the nation’s oldest and largest law enforcement labor organization representing more than 330,000 members.

Child shot multiple times in head, killed; driver critically injured after marshal-involved shooting Tuesday night in Marksville
Updated, 11:35 a.m.: A six-year-old boy was fatally wounded and his father was listed in critical condition after a chase with deputy city marshals in Marksville ended in a shooting on Tuesday night, Louisiana State Police said.
The boy, Jeremy David Mardis, of Effie, was killed by multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Avoyelles Parish Coroner L.J. Mayeaux said Wednesday. The boy was a student at Lafargue Elementary in Effie.
Mayeaux said the boy was in the vehicle when he was shot and it appears all the shots came from outside and through the driver's side of the vehicle. He said the investigation is ongoing, but the "working theory" is that all shots were fired by city marshals.
The shooting on Martin Luther King Drive in Marksville happened at the end of a pursuit and involved multiple city marshals from Ward 2, Louisiana State Police spokesman Trooper Daniel “Scott” Moreau said.
According to The Town Talk in Alexandria, the driver tried to run his car into a police vehicle
“The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations/Alexandria Field Office responded to the scene at the request of the Marksville Police Department to investigate the incident/shooting,” Moreau said.
Chris Few, the boy’s father, was taken to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria where he’s listed in stable condition, Mayeaux said.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

Cracker Ohio prosecutor says Tamir Rice's mother is “economically motivated”...

McGinty questions Rice family motives
This is the first time McGinty has spoken about the grand jury process since the proceedings began.
CLEVELAND -- Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy McGinty questioned the motives of the family --- and their attorneys--- who lost a 12-year-old boy to a police shooting in Cleveland, characterizing their intentions as "economic" in nature.
McGinty received an onslaught of questions Thursday night from the community after giving a speech at a Fairview Park event co-sponsored by several local Democratic clubs.
WKYC Channel 3's Hilary Golston was the only reporter to ask McGinty questions about the grand jury process at Thursday's meeting.
This is the first time McGinty has spoken about the grand jury process since the proceedings began.
Golston asked, "Samaria Rice's attorney -- and Samaria Rice herself --- they have said a special prosecutor should take over. Will you step aside?"
McGinty replied, "They waited until they didn't like the reports they received. They're very interesting people… let me just leave it at that… and they have their own economic motives."
After McGinty uttered the words, a woman in the audience burst out with "totally unfair." The remainder of her comments are inaudible in the exchange.
Friday afternoon, Samaria Rice's attorney Subodh Chandra responded to McGinty's comments.
"It's a shock and a surprise to Samaria Rice and her family that the prosecutor would go out of his way to insult her and her motives in trying to get justice as a grieving mother," Chandra said.
Golston asked, "Prosecutor McGinty, are you positive that that information was not leaked from your office?"
McGinty replied, "Yeah I'm positive. I know where the leak came from and I'm not going to reveal it at this time. I don't like that it happened. I'm confident where it took place, but it's a harmless event, not a crime."
Golston asked, "You have released testimony that the grand jury either has heard or will hear, but then, at the same time, we're hearing that you will not answer questions about the grand jury process."
McGinty replied, "By law, I cannot discuss an active investigation in the grand jury. I can talk about policy. There's reasons for the secrecy proceeding in our Constitution of the United States and our Constitution of the State of Ohio for secrecy in the Grand Jury. We want to encourage people to come in… be able to tell the truth without intimidation… in the search for the truth."
Golston asked, "If the grand jury process is closed, why are we getting information that the grand jury is seeing?"
To that, McGinty replied, "Because you're hanging around the grand jury… you being the media… speaking in general.
"At the conclusion of every case I've ever presented, I've made a recommendation to a grand jury as to prosecute or not prosecute, and I will do so in all those cases. The case you're referring to, the investigation is not over. People are asking for me to reach a conclusion before the investigation is over and that's silly. I'm not doing that… We will reach our recommendation and a grand jury will reach their decision."
Golston asked, "Does that mean that every report that you have presented to the grand jury, you are also releasing…. and have done so?"
McGinty said, "Every police report, every expert report, every coroner's report, every toxicology report, we make 'em available…look at the craziness that happened with the media talk shows regarding Ferguson."

University of Missouri's Black Football Players Go On Strike To Force Removal of School President
The University of Missouri’s Legion of Black Collegians released a statement tonight from the collective athletes of color on the Tigers football team stating they are on strike from football-related activities until the school president steps down in the wake of several racist acts on campus.
Many Missouri students believe school president Tim Wolfe has failed to act in response to several months’ worth of alleged racism on the Columbia campus—the most recent and controversial of which was a swastika of human feces found in a residence hall. The debate is mostly happening over on Facebook, where views both nuanced and not can be found under the #concernedstudent1950 hashtag.

Language Matters: Thousands Riot At UC Berkeley, Incident Is Called A Brawl
Over this past weekend, a riot involving 3,000 to 5,000 individuals near the University of California, Berkeley campus resulted in three arrests and one hospitalization.
The extremely large altercation also resulted in property damage and is being considered a “fight,” despite an officer from the Berkeley Police Department saying there were “reports of guns and knives” being used during the brawl.
Lt. Andrew Rateaver, an on-duty watch commander with the Berkeley Police Department, was quoted as saying he “wouldn’t go so far as to call it a riot.”
According to ABC News, “Officers dispatched to the vicinity of Channing Way and Piedmont Avenue around 12:30 a.m. found an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 people “milling about” the area – which is near numerous sororities and fraternities as well as the University of California, Berkeley campus.”
On Monday, Roland Martin and the NewsOne Now panel discussed the altercation involving thousands and how the incident is being spun to say those involved were fighting – not rioting.
Martin told the NewsOne Now discussion panel, “It’s amazing how many media folks ignored this story.”
“Please convince me that if three to five thousand Black folks lost their minds, there would not be wall-to-wall coverage,” said Martin.
NewsOne Now panelist David Swerdlick, Assistant Editor at The Washington Post, told Martin, “There would certainly be arrests and it would clearly be handled differently.”
Jamira Burley, Senior Campaigner at Amnesty International USA, said, “You’re not going to have police officers arresting Berkeley students because their parents probably have money and also probably know how to call up someone to get a favor.”
Later during the segment, Martin threw a jab at a certain Fox News host, saying, “Surely Bill O’Reilly is going to question where are their fathers and mothers, how did they raise them in terms of them out there acting a fool.”
“Surely he is going to say, ‘This is a breakdown in the family of these three to five thousand rioting there at Berkeley,'” Martin said.
Adam Jackson, CEO of Leaders of a Beautiful Struggle, reminded viewers of how discriminatory policing practices impact African-Americans, “They are set up to see White people as individuals expressing themselves and rioting and destroying property,” whereas Black people are viewed totally differently.

Anonymous Threatens to Take the Hoods Off of 1,000 KKK Members
In the newest chapter of their recurring online war with the Ku Klux Klan, the activist group Anonymous issued a considerable threat towards them on Twitter last week:
The conflict between the two organizations began in November of last year when the white supremacist group issued threats on its main Twitter account towards those protesting Michael Brown‘s death. In response to the vow of “lethal force,” Anonymous briefly took control of their account and announced that they would publish the names and social media account information of any Klansmen they uncovered as part of #OpKKK.
“We are not attacking you because of what you believe in as we fight for freedom of speech,” the hackers said in a recent statement. “We are attacking you because of what you do to our brothers and sisters.”
Members have reportedly been leaving the KKK for fear of exposure in past months. With the new information that has been discovered, the hackers released a new statement to reaffirm that they will continue to unmask and target supremacist websites:
The aim of the operation is nothing more than cyber Warfare. Anything you upload will be taken down, anything you use to promote the KKK will be shut down…You are more than a hate group. You operate much more like terrorists and you should be recognized as such. You are terrorists that hide your identities beneath sheets and infiltrate society on every level.

You operate much more like terrorists and you should be recognized as such. You are terrorists that hide your identities beneath sheets and infiltrate society on every level.
